Being the grandson of a man who started his own company does not mean you have the hot seat to the Chief Executive Operating (CEO) when you get of age; at least this was not the case for Eduardo Sirotsky Melzer.
Melzer is the grandson of Mauricio Sirotsky Melzer who started the media company Grupo RBS in Brazil.
Instead of sitting as the right hand man from the beginning Eduardo, who is nicknamed Duda Melzer for short, went to college. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and then went on to get a master’s degree in the same field from Harvard University.
The United States made an impact on Melzer and he stayed here for a few more years to be a senior analyist for the Delphi Corporation which handles automotive parts. With knowledge of foreign affairs and a passion for what he knew from both personal and formal education, Melzer became RBS’s CEO of domestic markets in 2004. Four years later, after attending a workshop on effective stratigies for media companies at Harvard, Melzer became their Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. He became their Executive Vice President in 2010 and they planned his assumption of the CEO position in July of 2012.
