Akeem Jamal

Akeem Jamal is Assistant Vice President, Communications & Government Affairs at Roosevelt Island. He is responsible for managing the communications and public affairs strategies that enable Roosevelt Island’s mixed-used community to thrive. He has experience in communications, media relations, and government affairs. He is also a member of the Young Leaders Forum for the Metropolitan Black Bar Association and a former staffer with New York City Councilman Robert Jackson and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer. He was also the youngest staff member to serve in Congressman Charles Rangel’s office, where he researched and developed policies on homeland security, immigration, and criminal justice issues.

  1. Education

Akeem Jamal attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. He has a BS in Marketing and a minor in History. He has also attended the City College of New York’s Trial and Appellate Court Law School. He graduated Cum Laude in 2007. He has additional certifications in marketing, public relations, and communications. Moreover, he received training in data management from the Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership.

Government Executives have recognized Akeem Jamal as one of the top 50 public affairs executives under 40. He has also named a New York Times’s All Stars of Politics for his work on Representative Charles Rangel’s campaign and a local political Landmark for his work with Congressman Robert Jackson. He received the Award for Outstanding Student Leader from the Graduate School of Public Administration. He was awarded for his work on the Island at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation’s awards celebration. Additionally, he was given the Recognition Award from former Congressman Charles Rangel for his work with the City Council.
