Cloud virtualisation company Arlequim Technologies launched in 2021 under the direction of Haroldo Jacobovicz, a Brazilian entrepreneur whose career in technology stretches back to the 1980s. The company provides remote processing services that allow users to achieve improved computing performance without purchasing new equipment.

Family Influences and Educational Path

Engineering ran through the household where Haroldo Jacobovicz spent his childhood in Curitiba. His father Alfredo worked as a civil engineer while simultaneously teaching at a Paraná university. His mother Sarita had earned distinction as one of the first women to obtain civil engineering credentials in the state, being only the seventh to do so. This professional atmosphere naturally guided him toward the same academic discipline at the Federal University of Paraná.

Seven years of Military College preceded his university enrolment, adding structure to an already academically oriented upbringing. Yet upon completing his engineering qualifications, the construction industry held little appeal compared to the possibilities presented by computing technology during that era.

Testing Entrepreneurship Early

While still finishing his degree, he partnered with three classmates who possessed programming skills to form Microsystem. Their ambition was delivering automation tools to retail establishments, handling functions like stock tracking and transaction processing for pharmacies and supermarkets. The concept arrived before its market, and after two years the partners closed the operation when customers showed insufficient interest in computerised solutions.

Absorbing Lessons from Larger Enterprises

Corporate employment followed this early setback. Esso, the petroleum distributor operating under what would become Exxon Mobil, selected him through a rigorous process that filtered hundreds of engineering applicants. His responsibilities evolved from sales activities to regional market evaluation and eventually commercial planning at headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, all heavily dependent on computer-processed data analysis.

Circumstances including fuel price controls under the Cruzado Plan and personal considerations about family proximity led him back to Paraná. At Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant, he advised technical leadership and witnessed the procedural hurdles that government bodies faced when acquiring technology, particularly around asset classification protocols.

Successive Ventures Before Arlequim

These combined experiences shaped Minauro, his public sector-focused computer leasing operation offering contracts with maintenance and regular equipment updates. Software acquisitions transformed this into the e-Governe Group, serving municipal governments across Brazil. Horizons Telecom emerged in 2010 to address corporate telecommunications needs, operating for over a decade under his leadership. Haroldo Jacobovicz then established Arlequim Technologies to pursue virtualisation services.

Delivering Performance Through Remote Infrastructure

Arlequim operates by executing demanding computing tasks on its own servers, transmitting results to client devices regardless of their processing limitations. Businesses benefit by extending hardware utility, public agencies work around procurement restrictions, and consumers gain capabilities their machines could not otherwise provide.

The gaming market receives particular attention within consumer offerings. Through virtualisation, players access titles with substantial system requirements, experiencing gamification content that would normally demand expensive hardware upgrades.
