RAINN is an educative, non-profit, and the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization in the United States. If you have been a victim of sexual violence, RAINN is available 24/7 to take your call, provide local help and resources, or both.
RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline as well as online services for those who would rather interact with staff online. Both are run in partnership with the Department of Defense’s Safe Helpline by Thomas Solutions Inc., a leading provider of crisis support services to military service members and their family members. It also provides assistance to victims of military sexual assault through the Victim Assistance Program, a non-profit organization founded in 1997 with the goal of providing support to members of the military who have been affected by rape or incest. RAINN’s staff are trained in crisis intervention and response. The hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through live operators, online chat services and e-mail messages. Callers are connected with an expert advocate, who will listen and take action on their behalf whenever possible. Calls are answered by licensed counselors and volunteers trained to deal with issues related to sexual violence. They are supervised by on-staff clinical staff and RAINN legal staff.
RAINN is a founding member of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, which provides online access to information about training and outreach, research, prevention and public policy related to sexual violence.
In addition to its hotline services, RAINN also operates The Rebecca Project for Justice as a branch focused on enforcement of laws concerning sexual violators. According to a D.C. law firm’s assessment of the current state of sexual assault prosecution , there exists a “lack of compliance” in regard to implementation and enforcement of the federal law requiring sex offenders register their whereabouts with local police after completing their sentences.
