Why NumbersUSA Supports the Reduction of Immigration Numbers in the US

NumbersUSA is a top-ranked immigration-reduction group aiming to restore US immigrants to historical levels. It was started by Roy Beck, a renowned American journalist, to support the findings of two congressional committees who discovered the need to reduce the high immigration rate in the US. They found that allowing the correct number of immigrants would save existing citizens from low living standards, environmental effects, lack of job opportunities, etc.

NumbersUSA is a non-partisan group that features members from all political spectrums. It commits itself to educating leaders, the public, and policymakers on the problem caused by high numbers of immigrants, such as low-quality life and environmental issues. In the 2000s, NumberUSA was recognized as the top grassroots group fighting against the high level of immigration. The following are reasons why the foundation supports the reduction of immigration numbers in the US:

  1. According to its website, Americans looking for low-skilled jobs can’t find them because foreign workers have already taken them.
  2. Many American citizens and immigrants get low wages, leading to low-living standards.
  3. The US government can’t improve the living standards of the existing citizens.
  4. Due to the high numbers of immigrants, most American cities are congested.
  5. Many immigrants are allowed to come to America without considering whether their qualifications can fit into the Country’s market.

NumberUSA is an offshoot of the FAIRO or the “Federation of American Immigration Reform Organizations“; which was founded in 1982 to represent the interests of citizens who believed in individual freedom and opposed mass-unlimited immigration. NumbersUSA also supports ending the lottery because many green cards are given to lottery winners without considering whether they have the right skill to benefit the Country. Besides, it advocates the end of chain immigration because family members connect 90% of immigrants entering the US. Although NumbersUSA fights against the high number of immigrants, it doesn’t support any form of xenophobia or bashing of immigrants. The organization believes that the correct numbers of immigrants are an asset to the Country. Some immigrants have outstanding skills which can benefit the American community.
