Alumnus Kelcy Warren’s Transformational Gift to UTA Makes History

University of Texas at Arlington alumnus Kelcy Warren, executive chairman and chairman of the Board
of Directors of Energy Transfer LP, has made an unprecedented $12 million gift to his
alma mater. This philanthropic investment is the largest single donation in UT
Arlington’s history, solidifying Warren’s commitment to advancing education in
the field of resource and energy engineering (REE).

The generous gift will propel UTA to the forefront of the REE field, providing significant
support for faculty and research excellence in the College of Engineering’s new
REE bachelor’s degree program. By doing so, it will create life-changing
opportunities for students pursuing a career in this rapidly growing industry.

Warren, who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from UT Arlington in 1978, understands
the critical need for highly skilled graduates who can manage energy resources.
His generous investment will help meet this demand in the state of Texas and beyond.

In recognition of Kelcy Warren’s remarkable contribution, UTA will name three endowed academic
positions in REE after him. Additionally, the gift will support the
establishment of REE laboratory space, a career experience center, and
scholarships and fellowships for deserving students. Undergraduate engineering
students will also benefit from research experiences that will prepare them for
success in the energy industry and other high-demand fields.

The REE bachelor’s degree program, set to launch in the fall of 2023, will be the first of its
kind in the United States. It will equip students with the necessary knowledge
and skills to apply engineering principles to energy generation, storage,
conversion, and distribution systems. The program will address the pressing
challenges in both conventional and renewable energy sources, ensuring
graduates are well-prepared to make a significant impact in the field.

Regent Warren’s extraordinary gift will position UTA as a national leader in resource and
energy engineering. It will enable the university to produce a pipeline of
talented engineers who are ready to tackle the evolving demands of the energy
sector. This transformative investment will leave a lasting legacy at UTA and
contribute to the economic growth and sustainability of Texas and beyond.

As UTA continues to expand its offerings and cultivate a culture of innovation, alumni like Kelcy Warren play a vital role in propelling the university
forward. Their generous support ensures that UTA remains a leading institution in education and research for years to come.
