Doug Haynes is the Managing Partner of Council Advisors. He is a former U.S. Marine who served in the first Gulf War and is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. He has worked in the financial services industry for over two decades, making his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 1997 and his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 2005.
Doug Haynes was born in Austin, Texas, to a working-class family. His father, a Korean War veteran, was a schoolteacher, and his mother was a homemaker. Doug was the oldest of four children and grew up in Austin. Haynes resides in Austin, Texas, with his wife and three children.
Doug served on the Board of Directors for Young Life, an organization that works with Christian teenagers worldwide, from 2007-2010 and 2012-2016. Doug also serves on the Board of Directors for The Hope Alliance. This organization works to bring hope to people living with HIV/AIDS or cancer through local outreach programs and community services. He is also on the board of The Austin Police Foundation, which raises money for the Austin Police Department. Hanes has also served as a board member for The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) and The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA). He is a member of the National Football Foundation Board of Directors and the Advisory Board for the University of Texas at Austin College of Education.
Haynes is also a philanthropist; he has given over $1 million to UT Austin and other organizations in the Austin area. He has also been a member of the Board of Trustees for St. Andrew’s Episcopal School since 1998. Also, Haynes donates to many other organizations as well.
In 2007, Doug Haynes was named one of the “Top 25 Most Influential People in Austin” by the “Austin Chronicle” and received the “Austin Under 40 Award” from Junior Achievement of Central Texas. Doug was also named to the “Texas Business Hall of Fame” in 2009. Doug has been named a “Top 100 Leader in Education” by “Texas Monthly Magazine.” Doug Haynes was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
