Edgard Corona, the visionary behind the highly successful
fitness chain Smart Fit, has made a significant impact on the fitness industry
in Brazil. With  over 30 years of experience, Corona has proven himself to be a
true pioneer in the field. 

After completing his degree in Chemical Engineering at
Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (FAAP), Corona embarked on a journey that
would ultimately shape the way people approach fitness. In the late 1990s, he
ventured out from his family’s business and opened the first Bio Ritmo gym in
Santo Amaro. This decision was fueled by his personal experience with physical
therapy  following a skiing accident, which led him to realize the importance of
having a convenient and accessible gym. 

However, it was not an easy start for Corona. The initial
Bio Ritmo gym struggled to  gain traction, but he remained determined. Learning
from his mistakes, Corona began to implement a new management model and sought
inspiration from industry benchmarks. He opened a Bio Ritmo branch on Avenida
Paulista, targeting individuals with limited time for exercise. This innovative
approach proved successful, and the gym quickly gained popularity. More
branches were opened, leading to the establishment of the Smart Fit brand in
2008. 

Corona’s entrepreneurial spirit and relentless pursuit of
excellence propelled Smart Fit to become one of the most renowned fitness
chains in Latin America. Today, he is recognized as one of the key figures in
the industry, with Smart Fit expandin g its presence across 13 countries in the
region. 

In a recent milestone, Smart Fit went public on the
Brazilian Stock Exchange, raising funds to support its post-pandemic growth
plans. The company aims to continue  its expansion, focusing on strategic
acquisitions and scalable initiatives to strengthen its position as a leader in
the fitness market.
